Our Weekend at Lincoln Square’s Signature Summer Party
This summer, Byline spent the weekend of July 12-14 going back to our Roots, as returning sponsors of Square Roots, Lincoln Square’s biggest summer block party. This year’s festival, which has rapidly grown into an annual destination for lovers of craft beer and music alike, featured more than 70 musical acts on four stages and 40 regional craft brews, plus dance parties, jam sessions and family activities in the always-popular Kids Zone.
Byline was proud to join with the Old Town School of Folk Music and the Lincoln Square Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce, as well as other local community leaders, to support the weekend event, whose proceeds go to fund Old Town School of Folk Music scholarship programs and local farmers markets, free summer concerts, artist-in-residence programs at public schools around Chicagoland and more.
Square Roots is a perfect example of how Chicagoland brings the best of big-city resources to events buzzing with a true neighborhood vibe. This year was no different: partygoers rocked to the music of local indie favorites while foodies lined up for treats from vendors as varied (and followed by fan fanatics) as Byron’s Hot Dogs, Gather, Groundswell Coffee Roasters and many more. And then there was the craft beer. Forty local and regional craft breweries were hoppin’ with a large variety of styles and special tappings throughout the weekend. Local artisans also brought their wares, and we were reminded again and again of just how much this town bursts with talent and creativity in every way.
Old Town School of Folk Music brought the fun (as well as tunes that were astoundingly catchy to both kids and Byliners volunteering at the event alike). From the instrument petting zoo to the swing set drum kit, the artistry and creativity that thrives at the School was truly on display. Speaking of our Byliners, they were kept busy at our booth passing out information, promo items (hugely popular item in 2019: sunscreen!) and reminding people—and ourselves—why investing locally really does pay off, in every sense of the word. We love this town.
