Our Night at Pomp! 2019

On May 10th, Byline was proud to serve as a Dean’s List sponsor for Pomp! 2019: a celebration of graduating Evanston Scholars, at Smylie Brothers Brewing Co. in Evanston. The celebration was also a benefit for the Scholars program, with proceeds going towards its continued funding, programming and support.

Evanston Scholars was founded in 2011, as an organization with a lofty (and worthy) mission: to improve college access and success for ambitious Evanston students, traditionally first-generation college entrants (85 percent of the Scholars are or will be the first in their families to complete college), low-income students and students of color.

Prospective Scholars apply in their 10th grade year at Evanston Township High School (ETHS) to enter the six-year program. Once accepted, Scholars work with dedicated mentors, who work with the students on college-prep guidance and education and ACT preparation. Mentorship continues throughout the college admissions and counseling process, to admittance and—eventually—college graduation.

One of the key elements in the success of the Scholars program is the focus on real-world work experience, summer and internship opportunities, to ready graduating students for entry into the professional world with the skills and practice they will need in order to be successful. We support their continuing efforts and are honored to play a part in helping such hardworking neighbors succeed.

Byline has been a proud and integral part of Chicagoland for over 100 years, and we take our responsibility to our neighborhoods and those who serve them—like the Evanston Scholars—very seriously. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to give back our own time and talents to the people around us who keep their communities strong and vibrant. We’re just where we want to be.
